Gifted learners often think deeply, ask big questions, and develop unevenly across academic, social, and emotional areas. At Exceptional Cognitions, we create highly individualized learning plans that nurture curiosity, challenge strengths, and support the skills needed to thrive - in school and beyond.

Helping Exceptional Minds Reach Their Full Potential

Highly capable learners don't always fit neatly into traditional educational environments.

Some race ahead academically while developing unevenly across subjects. Others think deeply but find it difficult to demonstrate the full depth of their understanding through traditional assignments. Many simply crave greater complexity, meaningful challenge, and opportunities to explore their interests more deeply.

At Exceptional Cognitions, we believe exceptional minds deserve an educational approach that is just as individualized as they are.

How We Build Personalized Learning Plans

Every gifted learner brings a unique combination of strengths, interests, goals, and learning preferences. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all curriculum, we begin by understanding the whole learner and designing a plan that meets them where they are at, builds on their natural abilities, and helps them develop the skills needed to thrive academically and beyond.

Every family begins with a complimentary assessment led by Jeanie Martin, MSW. This may include a review of report cards or, if applicable, psychological evaluations needed for private school admission. Together, you'll explore your child's academic profile, learning style, interests, and long-term goals. Using this information, Jeanie develops a personalized learning plan and recommends instructional strategies tailored to your child's unique way of thinking and learning.

Every Learning Plan Includes:

My gifted 2e daughter was struggling in school with writing assignments because of her stealth dyslexia, dysgraphia, and ADHD.  Homework was piling up due to her slowness in completing in-class assignments.  Working with her to complete her writing assignment was a struggle for us at home.  In order to become a mom again and have a pleasant family atmosphere, we decided to outsource writing homework help to Jeanie.  During trial class, it was obvious that my daughter and Jeanie had a good rapport.  They worked together through the summer, then the entire school year, and again the next summer, and part of the next school year.  Jeanie was flexible with accommodating my daughter's attention span, and always made the sessions so much fun that my daughter would happily jump into the weekly homework session with her even though there was only a 5-minute gap after she arrived home from school. Over time, my daughter's writing output started to match her verbal skill level.  I credit Jeanie for helping my daughter overcome her severe anxiety with writing schoolwork.  The tutoring not only helped her in literacy and humanities projects, but also her writing output in science.  I am very grateful to Jeanie for her support during these critical upper-elementary years, when school demands start to pick up.  She has gotten my kid to a state where she should be able to handle the middle school writing demands.  Still, who knows!  If we have needs in the future, we will definitely engage Jeanie again.
